“I was denied visa twice just because I’m Nigerian” — Travel creator Tayo Aina explains why he spent $150,000 on a Saint Kitts & Nevis passport

-

Popular Nigerian travel filmmaker Tayo Aina has opened up about what pushed him to spend a whopping $150,000 on getting a Saint Kitts and Nevis passport — a decision he says was rooted in his quest for freedom and access.

Speaking on the Podcast, Am I too loud?,  about the turning point, Tayo recalled how he was denied a visa twice while trying to attend a major creators’ conference in Dubai, despite having visited the country before.

“I was invited as a speaker alongside big creators like Casey Neistat at the NAS Summit. I’d been to Dubai twice before, but they denied me twice — just because I was Nigerian,” he said.

The YouTuber shared that it wasn’t his first encounter with travel restrictions. Even within Africa, he had faced harassment and unnecessary questioning over his Nigerian passport.

“I’ve had issues in Ethiopia, South Africa… they’ve either held my passport or denied me entry. But that Dubai experience broke me,” he admitted.

For Tayo, missing out on that global opportunity was the final straw. It was then he made up his mind to buy freedom.

“That day I told myself — never again. My biggest goal in life is freedom. Freedom to be wherever I want, whenever I want, with whoever I want,” he explained.

That pursuit led him to save up $150,000 and acquire a Saint Kitts and Nevis citizenship, one of the world’s most sought-after second passports that offers visa-free access to over 150 countries.

“I just saved up and bought the passport. That decision changed everything for me,” Tayo added.
