She has tried various antibiotics, surgical procedures, and even self-administered treatments, but the infections persist, making her life a constant struggle.
AMR is a global problem that disproportionately affects the most vulnerable populations, particularly in developing countries with poor sanitation, lack of clean water, and inadequate healthcare systems. Hospitals are key breeding grounds for drug-resistant infections due to the high concentration of patients and frequent use of antibiotics. In countries like Nigeria and Pakistan, where healthcare resources are limited, patients often rely on unregulated antibiotics sold over the counter, which contributes to the rise of drug-resistant bacteria.
